The Gentex DH 178 artilleryman helmet was an experimental attempt to create a protective CVC type helmet for the crews of self propelled artillery. These ballistic helmets were based on the DH 132 but came without communications electronics, and instead used two independent amplification circuits, one for each ear. These were prototype helmets and only 1400 of these were made by the Gentex Corporation and the helmet
