'Azul Monterrey' has been touted as a possible new century plant species, but our theory is that it constitutes a naturally occurring hybrid swarm between Agave ovatifolia, Agave asperrima, and Agave montana. This high elevation population was discovered in the Monterrey area of northern Mexico, where it grows on karst limestone mountains, in an open pine oak forest.
